Roanoke Area FairTax Meeting, March 5th

Do you wonder about how you can contribute to the FairTax debate? Well then, the Thursday, March 5th Roanoke Area FairTax meeting is for you. Donald Koop will describe a number of websites that are providing new ways to get the proposal well known around the country. Some are older and very informative sites, such as www.FairTax.org that is the gold standard. Other sites are new and take a new approach: networking or popularity-measuring, such as www.ZaptheIRS.com, www.WhiteHouse2.org, www.FairTaxNation.com, and numerous blogs and discussion groups. You can immerse yourself in the FairTax discussion without leaving your computer.

The meeting will be at 6:45 P.M. (sharp) at Edinburgh Square’s Community Room. Edinburgh Square is at 129 Hershberger Road NW, near Plantation Road, directly across from Star City Skating Center. Follow the FairTax signs to the meeting room.

Second Warning About The Value Added Tax!!

Apathy. That is the word I would use to describe the prevailing attitude in Roanoke and Southwest Virginia in the matter of federal tax reform. To be sure, there are dyed-in-the-wool activists and head-nodding supporters. But, there are also quizzical-looking listeners, it’ll-never-happen deniers, I-haven’t-got-the-time spectators, and I’m-not-interested wave-awayers.

Two important events will take place near April 15th. The first is “Storm the Hill – Operation FairTax Victory,” a program to bring citizen suppport for the FairTax directly to our legislators in Washington. The second is a movie, “An Inconvenient Tax,” about our tax code and ways to replace it, to be shown at the Grandin Theater.
