Local scholar examines the FairTax in thesis

The FairTax is one of the most researched tax policies in the history of the United States and now a local student has conducted research of his own – coming to the same conclusion: the FairTax will work.

Americans for Fair Taxation has conducted over $20 million worth of research and just recently 80 economists submitted an open letter to the President offering their take on the FairTax

Local scholar Bryan Strelow has graciously submitted his own thesis, “Truth, Justice and the American Tax” as another testament to the FairTax and what it would mean for America.

Strelow writes,

The current U.S. tax policy does not allow the American economy to maximize its potential productivity. As a result, the people of the United States are facing a real problem today. The nation’s tax policy is so riddled with complexities that it is no longer efficient and equitable. Many plans have been introduced to fix it by changing the laws or to expand it to make it better, but these all fail to accomplish the most needed reform in the American tax system. The principles upon which this nation was founded, principles of freedom, equality, and justice, have been lost in the overflowing pages of complex tax legislation. However, there is hope for this unproductive, ineffective system. That hope is a fundamental reform of U.S. tax policy that will abolish the current income tax and replace it with a consumption-based tax which restores the foundations of freedom, equality, and justice to taxation in America.

But this is only the beginning of his remarkable research. Mr. Strelow thoroughly examines what the FairTax could mean for America,

The present income tax system is in disrepair and is fundamentally flawed in its philosophy. In order to return American tax policy to the roots of freedom and justice on which this nation was founded, reform is necessary. The FairTax fully abolishes the corruption, complexities, inefficiencies, and inequalities of the current system by simplifying federal tax policy. The advantages of consumption-based taxation provide immediate benefits through the alleviation of the distortions and abuses in the current system. Furthermore, the advantages of a national retail sales tax would send America into a growth economy. By widening the tax-base, and bringing more wealth into the nation, the FairTax proposal fully achieves the advantages of any consumption-based method of taxation. If the United States is going to continue to lead the world as an example of free-market economic success, it must implement a tax plan that realizes the maximum potential of American productivity. That plan is the FairTax.

RoanokeAreaFairTax would like to publicly thank Bryan for his diligent effort and contributions toward the FairTax cause.
