Congressman Virgil Goode of Virginia’s Fifth District will speak at the grand opening of the Smith Mountain Lake Republican Headquarters in Westlake, VA on Saturday, August 2. Goode is a strong supporter of the FairTax and one of 73 co-sponsors of the bill. The event begins at Noon at 400 Scruggs Rd., one-half mile south of Rt. 122. Apathy. That is the word I would use to describe the prevailing attitude in Roanoke and Southwest Virginia in the matter of federal tax reform. To be sure, there are dyed-in-the-wool activists and head-nodding supporters. But, there are also quizzical-looking listeners, it’ll-never-happen deniers, I-haven’t-got-the-time spectators, and I’m-not-interested wave-awayers.
Roanoke Tea Party will rally at Elmwood Park in downtown Roanoke on April 15th from 5:30-7:30 pm.
Two important events will take place near April 15th. The first is “Storm the Hill – Operation FairTax Victory,” a program to bring citizen suppport for the FairTax directly to our legislators in Washington. The second is a movie, “An Inconvenient Tax,” about our tax code and ways to replace it, to be shown at the Grandin Theater.
