Let your voices be heard July 4th at Elmwood Park, from 5-7 pm.

ARE YOU READY FOR AN EVEN BIGGER Taxed Enough Already PARTY ??

Let your voices be heard July 4th at Elmwood Park, from 5-7 pm.

You’ll still have plenty of time to hear the symphony and see the fireworks.

In the light of the economic chaos, financial meltdown, excessive spending (that’s an understatement),job losses and a mountain of debt, the FAIRTAX offers a beacon of hope and common sense.

I’d like to call your attention to an article in Wednesday’s Roanoke Times. At a meeting of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce members were asked “which influences were most likely to negatively impact” your establishment’s growth in the next five years?

From a list of 10 possible negative impacts, the audience ranked their top 2.

“Government policies..taxes and employee costs” which include wages,

Workers comp, and health benefits

This is exactly what the FAIRTAX addresses!!!

Elimination of corporate taxes, payroll taxes, no income tax,

No deduction for social security, medicare..NO MORE TIME AND MONEY

SPENT ON CONFUSING,ONEROUS, IRS FORMS.

ALL OF THIS ,AND GOVERNMENT FUNDING WILL INCREASE..SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE WILL BE FUNDED..OUR TAX BASE WILL INCREASE FROM

180 M TO OVER 300M TAXPAYERS.

THINK OF THE 11 TRILLION $$$ PARKED IN OVERSEAS ACCOUNTS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY COME BACK TO THIS COUNTRY TAX FREE!!

WHAT A BOON TO BUSINESS AND OUR ECONOMY THAT WOULD BE.

WE WOULD NO LONGER HOLD THE DUBIOUS HONOR OF HAVING THE

SECOND HIGHEST CORPORATE TAX IN THE WORLD..38%

ONLY JAPAN IS HIGHER..

TWO QUOTES I WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE WITH YOU..

BOTH BY THOMAS JEFFERSON

A GOVERNMENT BIG ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANT

IS STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!

Thomas Jefferson

And

THE DEMOCRACY WILL CEASE TO EXIST WHEN YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO WORK AND GIVE TO THOSE WHO WOULD NOT!

Thomas Jefferson

PRESENT POLICIES ARE LEADING US IN THAT DIRECTION!

SO PLEASE JOIN US JULY 4TH ..LET THOSE IN OUR CONGRESS AND SENATE

KNOW THAT WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF GOVERNMENT INTRUSION INTO

EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES !

RAFT member Paul Greier sent us the following:

A ‘Tea Party’ is being organized in the SML area and is scheduled to be held near the Grand Furniture Store in Westlake, VA on Tuesday, April 14th, between 2:30 and 4:00 pm.

It would really be great if we could get you and some of your Roanoke colleagues to come out with some FairTax signs and literature. These Tea Parties do seem like a perfect opportunity to spread the word on the FairTax … to all those folks who have gripes about taxation, but might not yet be informed about the FairTax.

Marilyn Osborne Bach (MMOsborneBach@aol.com) informed me of this event, and so if you need any more info as the date approaches, you might want to contact her directly.

My understanding is that there will be several political figures attending, including Virgil Goode, former Congressman and FairTax co-sponsor.

If you live nearby, come and join the fun!

Robert L. Matzuga found a way to speak to 5th District Congressman Tom Perriello about the FairTax and sent me his report. Robert’s example is one that every one of us can follow in our own Districts. Spread the word!

I’m pleased to inform you that I was able to attend Congressman Tom Perriello’s Town Hall Meeting at Moneta Elementary School on March 27th.

After his opening remarks, he opened the meeting to questions from the audience.

After a few questions I was able to get a feel for the tone of the audience. When two questions dealt with tax issues and fairness (i.e. tax targeting AIG bonus recipients and offshore profits, etc.)… I pounced!

I prefaced my comments noting President Obama’s appointment of Paul Voelker as head of the Tax Reform Committee and its importance to our country, since their recommendations are due in December 2009.

I took the opportunity to present him with his own personal copy of the FairTax Book and then challenged him to read the book and return to Moneta in 30-45 days to discuss the FairTax, his position on HR 25, and hopefully his co-sponsorship of this legislation with us.

After accepting his FairTax Book, he commented on his current position, which I understood to be that there are things he likes about it (i.e. simplicity, trade benefits, attempts to mitigate penalizing the poor via prebate), and he also has reservations (i.e. what will the real retail tax be-23% or 40%+ as some suggest and concern for tax shift to the middle class).

He indicated that he would like to meet with us again to discuss the FairTax and that he will read up on it to see if he can support HR25.

All in all, I am glad that I attended the meeting and was perhaps able to promote the FairTax. I have contact info for the Congressman’s staff guy (who wound up with the book) and will attempt to hold them to their word!

Saturday (3/14) is Roanoke’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a time for family and fun. Roanoke Area FairTax will be there again this year but with a new twist: an invitation to party.

Saturday (3/14) is Roanoke’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a time for family and fun. Roanoke Area FairTax will be there again this year but with a new twist. Unlike past years, when we sought petition signers or handed out FairTax information, this year’s goal is to draw people to our website because of what we can do for them.

With the economy in such bad shape and with huge expenditures in an attempt to fix it, the principles of the FairTax stand as ways to fix it and, quite possibly, to prevent future occurrences. Many citizens are angry at what they fear will be taken from them to cover the bad decisions of others. They are expressing themselves in public gatherings called “Tea Parties,” reminiscent of the taxation-without-representation Boston Tea Party in 1773.

RAFT wants to bring a positive message to these expressions of anger and concern: the promise of the FairTax. As such, we will be handing out up to 2000 Shamrock-green fliers asking people to go to our special website page, www.RoanokeAreaFairTax.com/TeaParty, that is being constructed. There we will have information about events, meetings, and information.

I am looking for volunteers who would enjoy a good parade and help pass our fliers to spectators. The parade begins at 11:00 and runs for about two hours after which there will be a Celtic Festival at Williamson Rd. and Church St. RAFT will have “headquarters,” as usual, in the parking lot at the corner of Jefferson St. and Campbell Ave. starting at 9:00. Come to our “booth,” meet your fellow supporters, grab some fliers, and get out into the crowd. All you have to do is hand them out: no explanations, no signatures.

The more of us there are, the easier the job will be. Come and, literally, Spread the word!
